That's
why the iPhone is always updated: not only protects itself from cyber attacks,
but also access the latest features.
To
help you get the most out of your iPhone, INSIDER concentrates its best skills
and hidden features on 15 to make your life better in 2017. But before you
check it out, make sure you are running iOS 10.3 or higher for your iPhone.
Get
hourly weather updates without opening the weather app.
This
is one of the most useful features introduced in iOS 10.3. To use it, open
Apple's Google Maps app, search for a location, and hold down the weather icon
in the bottom right corner.
Customize
the brightness level of the flashlight.
Sleep
with a custom timer and listen to music, stop all media on your phone.
Open
Apple's Clock app and click on "Timer" in the lower right corner to
access this feature. This technique was a major change in my game rules when I
first discovered it. I have been using it all the time, listening to meditation
videos on YouTube, ocean sounds on Spotify, podcasts, and more.
Create
custom vibration alerts for calls, text, tweets, calendar reminders, alarms,
and more.
By
setting up custom vibration alerts, you can easily see what type of
notifications you can get without having to answer your phone. Just go to
Settings > Sounds and select the alert for which you want to create a custom
vibration - such as Text Tone or New Mail. Tap and hold to create a pulse and
raise your finger to enter a pause between pulses. Like your iPhone Ctrl + Z or
Command + Z, shake your phone to undo typing
This
feature is especially useful if you accidentally delete long paragraphs of
text.
You
can turn this feature on and off by going to General > Accessibility and
clicking Switch next to Shake Undo.
Click
the button to view and edit drafts from all different email accounts.
Don't
waste time checking the drafts folder for each email account. Instead, click
and hold the "New Message" icon in the lower right corner of the
Apple Mail app and you'll see each draft you've saved.
Choose
camera mode now, even if your phone is locked.
Respond
to calls using a quick custom SMS.
Before
I knew this trick, I used to take the time to reject a call, unlock my phone,
open my I Messages, and send text messages to people who call me. I can now do
the same thing with just two taps
Go
to Settings > Phone and click "Reply with text." Here you can
create up to three custom text responses that you can use when you are unable
to make a call.
Enter
symbols and letters quickly and easily.
This
technique makes it easier to type the character. For example, to type a
backslash, click and hold the forward slash symbol instead of clicking the
"123" button, then click the "#+ =" button to get the
backslash button.
Type
symbols and numbers without having to switch keyboards.
Don't
waste time clicking the "123" button, clicking on a symbol, then
clicking the "ABC" button again. Use this technique.
To
save more time while typing, double-click the space bar to add a full stop
(fulls top plus a space).
Instead
of clicking the "123" button during the input, double-click the space
bar to insert a complete stop. To turn this feature on and off, go to Settings
> General > Keyboard and click Switch next to ".". Shortcut.
Replace
your 4-digit password with a more secure alphanumeric code.
Go
to Settings > Touch ID and Password and click "Change Password" or
"Open Password". To make your passwords more secure, you can add
symbols from the keyboard, not just letters and numbers.
Text
substitution on a custom keyboard can insert common phrases, symbols or emoji
faster.
To
view and edit the list of keyboard shortcuts, go to Settings > General >
Keyboard and click on "Text Replacement".
The
next time you create or fix something, use Apple's Compass app as a convenient
level.
View
a location on the map without opening Apple's Google Maps app.
Instead
of opening Google Maps or Apple's Maps app, manually enter the address someone
sent you, instead of using this technique to save time. Click and hold the
address in your I Message to see the options menu. Or, hold down the address of
the Apple Maps app and slide the menu option up on the screen.
